Family Tree: Fine Woodworking in Northern California

Handmade or “studio furniture” has been a strong presence in California since 1945. To celebrate this movement, curator Kathleen Hanna has traced the linage from pioneers Bob Stockdale, Arthur Espenet Carpenter, Arthur Hanna and J.B. Blunk to the present graduates of the wood furniture design program at California College of the Arts. This exhibition features 25 artists whose work has influenced California’s contemporary fine woodworking movement. Also on exhibit will be faculty selected works by students from the Furniture Design Program at California College of the Arts. Throughout the exhibition will be weekend demonstrations, lectures and events.

  1. What I love about wood furniture is the way how it is being made. Now, owning some of those wood bowl furniture will definitely be an addition to my furniture collection.

  2. Making a beautiful kind of wood furniture like that really takes a lot of skills, talent and expertise. If mastered, this is absolutely a good way to earn some money.

  3. I want to see this exhibit! I'm a big fan of wood furniture because ever since I was a child, I've always watched my uncle when he makes DIY furniture at home. Will they have this exhibit again? -- Holly

  10. There are various other aspect of construction that you need to go over before you hammer away. Most woodworkers would just prefer if they can just get on with the job and have nothing to do with these preparations. cordless screwdriver
